The right mini-split is a number, not a brand.

Installers quote what they stock. Brands quote what they make. The BTU load of your actual room does not care about either. Run the sizing first and walk into every quote knowing the answer.

Mini-split sizing, the honest version

A 12k unit covers this room with headroom for humid afternoons. Match to the next size up only if you plan to cool an adjoining open room.

Estimate for planning and quote-checking. A Manual J calculation from an installer remains the final word for whole-home systems.

Cooling myth

Bigger does not cool better. An oversized unit hits the thermostat before it dries the air, and a cold clammy room feels worse than a warm one.

Heating truth

Modern heat pumps heat at -25°C. What varies is how much capacity survives the cold. That derating curve is the whole purchase decision.
